Search box returns results from all ebay if no results in specific category

I am using a specific eBay category for my mcjiffy page and I am wondering if it would be possible to make it so a search done in the search box will return results from all of ebay if there are no items found within that category?

The same goes for items in the "similar topics" section.

If you use a specific ebay category, that category will be applied to all code within the script. So that means it will affect the auction items, any search results and the related keywords. Right now it is basically all or nothing when it comes to using an ebay category.

Again, I don't know php so I don't know what it can and can't do, but is it possible to set up an "if/else" type of statement where if there are no results for a search then it would use the general ebay category rather than the stated category in the default file?
